NEW ORLEANS — On Feb. 14, several weeks after school officials received two threatening letters, six buildings at Resurrection of Our Lord Elementary School were doused with accelerants and set on fire.
School officials are unsure if the fires were linked to the threats, The Times-Picayune reports. Police were brought onto campus after the anonymous letters were slipped through the doors of the locked church and principal’s office in December. The letters contained the same few lines, including “You will pay.”
Police presence on campus had been slowly reduced, and then withdrawn entirely over the weeks leading up to the fire. An appraisal of the damage has not yet been conducted, but officials said it was extensive.
