Schools in the unincorporated parts of Dorchester County will now have school resource officers (SROs) patrolling them thanks to a new tax that was approved July 27 by the county council.

Members voted 4-2 for the tax that will be levied on homeowners, reports ABC News 4. The tax will cost $6 for a home worth $150,000.

Most of the SROs will be in the schools by the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year, which starts in three weeks.

The funds will also pay for schools in Summerville.
