Not only did New York University (NYU) Langone Medical Center have to evacuate hundreds of patients as a result of Hurricane Sandy, it also lost years of valuable medical research.
During last week’s storm, the hospital’s backup generators failed, leaving one of the facility’s animal research labs without power. Thousands of mice used for cancer research drowned, reports the New York Daily News. Additionally, enzymes, antibodies and DNA strands that are supposed to be stored at -80 degrees and -20 degrees were probably destroyed.
