SAN DIEGO, Calif., San Diego State University (SDSU) is bringing in more police officers to respond to the school’s recent crime wave.
Since August, there have been six attacks on or near campus. The assaults, all against women, included a rape, two burglaries and an attempted armed robbery, as well as a carjacking that occurred Oct. 19. Police do not believe the crimes were related.
In response to the increase in assaults, police are encouraging students to use the police-run campus escort service. SDSU announced plans to add staff to the escort program, as well as increase the number of patrols. A rape prevention class will also be held.
The campus police chief issued a safety alert over the Internet to all SDSU students, informing them of the recent developments and encouraging them to take precautions.
