Saint Xavier University’s Officers Soon to Carry Guns

CHICAGO – Saint Xavier University’s Mount Greenwood campus will soon be patrolled by armed police officers.

The university board has agreed to allow some members of its campus police force to carry firearms to complement the school’s unarmed officers. Additionally, as the university grows in acreage and attendance, the number of officers will increase. Officials believe this will speed up the department’s response times and improve safety.

Despite the improvements, Saint Xavier will still work with the Morgan Park District of the Chicago Police Department. Currently, the school’s public safety department has 32 employees working as dispatchers, shuttle drivers officers. The department’s goal is to have an armed officer on duty at all times of the day and evening.
