ST. LOUIS, Monthly safety drills have been credited for the efficient evacuation of the Town and Country Health Care Center after a fire broke out in the nursing home Dec. 23.
The fire started in the center’s laundry room and created smoke that seeped through the three-story nursing home that houses 175 residents. After the fire was discovered, the more than 20 employees on duty worked their way through the facility and evacuated all of the patients to safe areas inside. This prevented residents from being expose to the cold night air.
There were no injuries reported, and there was minimal patient exposure to the smoke.
