CLINTON, S.C. – Laurens County Memorial Hospital has canceled a security contract with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.

Last year, Greenville Health System, which manages LCMH, signed a 20-year management agreement with the sheriff’s office. As part of the arrangement, two sheriff’s deputies patrolled the hospital grounds.

However, the hospital recently informed law enforcement LCMH no longer requires outside security because GHS already has a security force with officers who have arrest powers, Clinton Chronicle reports.

The Laurens County Council will keep the two officers on the county payroll until the end of the fiscal year.
