Louisiana officials are denying a school preparedness slam after a report released by the non-profit group Save the Children said the state’s schools and daycares were unprepared to evacuate children during a disaster.

The report states that Louisiana is one of 11 states lacking evacuation plans for schools and daycare centers and written disaster procedures for schools, reported United Press Int’l.

In a joint statement, the state Education Superintendent and the director of the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security said the state Education Department requires every district to have an emergency preparedness plan and that Louisiana has been proactive in utilizing the tools, resources and information needed to create a plan.
