Reduced Sensitivity Smoke Detectors Recalled

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Eight Tyco Fire & Security brand smoke detector models, manufactured by Solectron Technology Co. of Sizhou, China, have been recalled because they can experience reduced sensitivity in environments suffering from high humidity and temperature.

Detectors with reduced sensitivity can experience delays in sensing smoke from a fire, or miss a valid smoke signature altogether.

According to Tyco, no incidents or injuries have been reported because of the problem. These smoke detectors were installed in commercial buildings throughout the United States. The distributors, SimplexGrinnell of Boca Raton, Fla., ADT Security Services Inc. of Boca Raton and Ansul Inc. of Marinette, Wis., are all calling building managers with instructions on how to obtain free replacements.

Model numbers include the following: 4098-96014098-96854098-9688C, 4098-9601C4098-9685C430696, 4098-9601EA4098-9686T360-9002,.4098-96024098-9686C430559, 4098-9602C4098-9687430695, 4098-96054098-9688ADT-3201, T360-9935430562ADT-3202, T360-9936430560ADT-3204, and T360-9001T360-9003ADT-3205.
