LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Clinton County has decided not to renew the contract of a psychologist who counseled one of Jerry Sandusky’s victims and sharply criticized Central Mountain High School’s response to the victim’s report of sexual abuse. Sandusky had served as a volunteer football coach at the high school.
Michael Gillum, who worked with the county’s Children and Youth Services, counseled Aaron Fisher for four years, concluding with Sandusky’s conviction. Gillum later co-authored a book with Fisher and his mother about the ordeal, where he blasted the school’s response to the Sandusky case, USA Today reports.
Gillum claims that his supervisor, Gerald Rosamilia, demanded he sever ties with the book project, which included speaking engagements, or have his contract terminated. Weeks after receiving the ultimatum, Gillum consulted a lawyer. Shortly thereafter, Rosamilia offered him full-time employment with the county that would allow him to maintain his private practice and activities related to the book.
County officials told the psychologist in February that they were going in a different direction and his contract would not be renewed. Gillum believes his criticism of Central Mountain High School played a role in his being terminated.
