BOISE, Idaho — A college professor who called himself a “psychopathic killer’’ and “the beast’’ committed suicide after shooting a graduate student he had recently dated.
Ernesto A. Bustamante, a former University of Idaho professor, was found in a hotel room after he had apparently shot himself in the head with a revolver, the Associated Press reports. Katy Benoit had been killed on the front porch of her home a day earlier.
Benoit was shot multiple times with a .45-caliber handgun after stepping outside of her house to smoke a cigarette. A neighbor saw man, who police later identified as Bustamante, in a dark trench coat and hat leaving the scene.
Benoit’s roommates said she had broken up with Bustamante in March, and since then he had threatened her numerous times with a handgun.
