Possible Link in California College Assault Discovered

Published: November 20, 2007

TORRANCE, Calif. – Police are investigating the possible connection between an on-campus sexual assault at El Camino College that occurred Nov. 13 and a slew of unsolved attacks on women at California State University Long Beach (CSULB) that happened last year.

A 20-year-old woman was attacked at El Camino around 7 p.m. near the women’s gym as she was waiting for her mother to pick her up.

According to police, the attacker wore dark clothing, which included gloves and a ski mask, and also used a knife. Authorities believe the same suspect wore similar attire to an attack on the CSULB campus a year ago.

Long Beach campus police Detective John Leyva said he called El Camino campus police to compare notes on the assault, although it is not clear if the Long Beach crimes are linked with the El Camino incident.
