Two 24-year-old female students at Indiana University were allegedly sexually assaulted at a house near the campus Sunday morning, leading to a shoot-out between Bloomington police and the suspects, wounding two of the suspects.
Three men reportedly broke in a house before 4:30 a.m., and the police were called to the scene after a woman said she heard screaming. Two shots were reportedly fired by the suspects after officers shouted, “police,” according to the Indy Star. Two 19-year-old suspects then fled, with one being shot in the leg and the other in the arm. The officer was unharmed.
Police said the wounded suspects were Michael Deweese and Vaylen Keishaun Glazebrook. Both face preliminary charges including rape with a weapon and attempted murder. A third suspect, Jesse Benti-Torres, 19, is being charged with armed burglary and aiding a criminal.
An Indiana University spokesman said they didn’t activate an alert system, “IU Notify,” because the suspects were arrested at the scene a short time after the call went out.
