Police have determined that a student of Annapolis High School who was shot over the weekend of Nov. 22 on the St. John’s College campus was not the intended target of the shooting.
As many as eight shots were fired near the college’s Hodson Boathouse around midnight, where a private party for a 15-year-old boy was being held. The victim was struck in the face by a bullet, but is recovering from her injury, the Capital Gazette reports.
Although students and staff were not in any danger, St. John’s College initiated safety procedures including security escorts for students on campus and safeguarding of the dormitories in the vicinity. Officers did not find anyone with a gun but discovered casings from a small-caliber weapon at the scene. It is not known if the shooting was the result of a confrontation or the result of someone firing a weapon carelessly.
The college alerted students and parents of the incident and is continuing to cooperate with police as the investigation continues.
