Police: UF Frat Members Beat Recruits With Paddles

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Police said that for four nights in a row, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity members at the University of Florida beat recruits for an hour with paddles.

The suspects in the beatings, including nine UF students and one alumnus, are not allowed on campus, the Independent Florida Alligator reports. The university also fired Safo O. Agyemang and Chad W. Billington II, who were temporary employees.

One victim of the alleged abuse had scabs on his buttocks; another had bruises on his collarbone. A third claimed he could not sleep on his back for several nights.
