Police: Teacher Accused of Child Sex Abuse Fled to Mexico

LOS ANGELES — Police believe a substitute teacher who was charged with sexual misconduct involving students might be on the run in Mexico.

George Hernandez resigned from the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2007, but later got a job in the Inglewood Unified School District, the Los Angeles Times reports. He fled the area after police discovered a video tape of him allegedly molesting a second-grade girl.

Police investigated Hernandez three times for alleged sexual misconduct involving students, but he was still able to get a job in the Inglewood district. LAUSD officials have found no evidence that they ever reported Hernandez to the state credentialing commission, which would have prevented him from being hired at other districts.
