LONG BEACH, Calif. – University police pepper sprayed and used batons on demonstrators who disrupted a California State University trustees meeting on Wednesday.
The board voted to increase tuition by $500 starting in the fall of 2012, reports the Los Angeles Times. The meeting, however, descended into chaos when members of the audience began chanting “we are the 99%,” and demanded that trustees sign a pledge to force financial institutions to pay more taxes to fund higher education, according to the news source.
