UPDATE: Mother of Baby Tossed From Garage To Be Charged With Murder

ORANGE, Calif. — Sonia Hermosillo, who is accused of throwing her 7-month-old son from the upper stories of a parking structure at Children’s Hospital Orange County, is scheduled to be arraigned August 25 on new charges of murder and child abuse resulting in death, with a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Hermosillo was originally to be arraigned on one count of attempted murder, but her son died of his injuries on August 24, the Los Angeles Times reports. She appeared briefly in court on Wednesday.

Hermosillo was being held alone in a cell and was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation, the Daily Breeze reports. Some news sources have described Hermosillo as suffering from postpartum depression.

Sonia Hermosillo allegedly threw her 7-month-old son off the parking structure on August 22, the Los Angeles Times reports. The boy was in critical condition, but later died.

Hermosillo’s husband contacted La Habra police about his missing wife and son, according to the Daily Breeze. La Habra police then shared the report with Orange police, who spotted Hermosillo driving past the hospital and detained her. Her car contained a child’s car seat, but there was no infant in the car.
