GRANITE CITY, Ill. — A man who was sedated and restrained by Gateway Regional Medical Center security died in the emergency room on Dec. 2.
Police were called to the hospital after Anthony T. Burkey became unresponsive while being restrained by three security personnel, The Telegraph reports. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Burkey was taken to the hospital by ambulance after police responded to a complaint against him at his home. Because he appeared to be hallucinating when police arrived, Burkey was transported to the hospital instead of a jail.
