ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police officers at the University of New Mexico (UNM) Hospital are striving to improve security after a shooting that took place in the pediatric ward on Jan. 4.
The department is searching for a firm with inner-city hospital experience to provide training for UNM police officers to better prepare for violent incidents, KOAT-TV reports.
Police said they would consider installing metal detectors or hiring armed security guards to patrol outside the hospital. They also have urged community members to subscribe to LOBO alerts, which provide information in case of an emergency.
The department has yet to set a timeline for the implementation of these security changes
