PLAINFIELD, Ill. – The Plainfield Police Department has received a $442,355 grant to purchase and install new security systems.
Given by the U.S. Department of Justice, the Community Oriented Policing Services Secure Our Schools grant requires the district to match monies for the program. Plainfield’s school district has $600,000 available from interest earned from district construction funds.
School district staff and officers are working together to select a security system that will work with current technology. They will also determine where to place the cameras, most likely in the cafeteria and key hallways.
The grant will also pay for liaison officers at all three district high schools. Access control at the gym doors of all district elementary and middle schools will also be installed via the grant.
