A 53-year-old physician, who was a patient at Sky Ridge Medical Center, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, menacing and second-degree assault for allegedly stabbing a nurse while trying to escape the hospital.
Dr. Grady Michael Holder was at the hospital for alcohol treatment on Feb. 13, when the incident occurred, reports NBC affiliate 9 News. A police report indicates that the victim, whose name has not been released, was summoned to Holder’s room so he could receive medication. Holder then stabbed the nurse with a three-and-a-half inch folding knife in her upper arm area. Police said the wound was in the victim’s upper chest.
Holder, who was subdued by hospital staff with a chair, bedside table and a four-foot-tall metal food cart, is being held on $100,000 bond.
Hospital officials are reviewing security procedures as a result of the incident.
