ITHICA, N.Y., Two Ithica College students were found Oct. 29 shooting at each other with pellet guns in a campus parking lot. When campus patrol officer Bill Kerry asked them to drop their weapons, one complied. The other student, however, pointed his gun in the direction of Kerry, prompting him to point his own gun back. Kerry did not know whether the student’s gun was real or not.
Although no shots were fired and no one was injured, the incident demonstrates the danger of air guns on campus. Both students were arrested.
In a previous incident at the college, a female student reported that another student was pointing a gun at her from inside his room. When officers investigated, they found the room in question had two pellet guns.
Although fake guns are required to come equipped with orange tips, many students remove the tips to make the guns look more realistic. Students sometimes play with the guns while on campus.
Officials at Ithica College have asked for students to comply with the officers and abide by the school’s policy banning weapons on campus.
