PHILADELPHIA — Police have released surveillance footage as part of their ongoing investigation into the shooting of a 68-year-old school safety officer that occurred early Sunday morning.
According to Philadelphia Police detectives, the incident unfolded after a driver flagged down the safety officer along Columbus Boulevard, reporting that he had been a victim of a road incident on I-95. Shortly after this interaction, the suspect, believed to be driving a white Kia Sportage, opened fire on the officer.
The school safety officer managed to drive a short distance before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a tree. He sustained injuries and was hospitalized; his current condition remains unclear.
Shooting Suspect and Vehicle Description
Police have described the suspect as a Hispanic male with a bowl-style haircut, wearing a red or orange shirt. Surveillance footage captures the suspect’s vehicle, identified as a white 2017-2019 Kia Sportage.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the vehicle to come forward. “This is an ongoing investigation, and we need the public’s help to hold the individual responsible,” said the Philadelphia Police Department in a statement.
