Pennsylvania Security Guard Pleads Guilty to Holding Teenager Hostage

Published: June 28, 2007

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – On June 26, a former school security guard pleaded guilty to charges of holding a 14-year-old girl captive in his house for 10 years and having sex with her and received five to 15 years in prison.

In 1996, Tanya Nicole Kach ran away from home and went to the house of Thomas John Hose. At the time he worked as a security guard at her school and lived with his parents and son. Kach’s lawyer Lawrence Fisher claims that almost immediately after her arrival, Hose forbade her to leave the house under pain of death.

Kach said that during the last few years, Hose let her out occasionally. In March 2006, she revealed her story to a deli owner, which led to Hose’s arrest later that month.

Just before his trial began, Hose pleaded guilty to charges of statutory sexual assault, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, two counts of indecent assault, and one count each of aggravated indecent assault, corruption of a minor, endangering the welfare of children, and interference with custody of children.

Prosecutors also charged Judith Sokol, 59, as an accomplice because she gave Kach and Hose a place to have sex. She pleaded no contest to statutory sexual assault, interference with the custody of a minor, corruption of a minor and endangering the welfare of a child.

Kach, now 25, is currently undergoing therapy. She finished her first semester of college and volunteers at a senior home.
