Penn State to Enhance Security With Surveillance Cameras

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Board of Trustees has approved the installation of 450 IP-based video surveillance cameras in 60 residence halls and commons buildings throughout the campus.

The cameras will monitor entrances, lobbies, exit stairwells, elevators and commons service desks, Penn State News reports. The addition of the cameras will enhance the current security systems in place at the university, which include card access and door alarm systems.

Officials expect the $1.4 million project to be completed by May 2014.
