UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. – Penn State administration will implement a drinking ban outside the school’s football stadium during games. Drinking in the parking lots before and after the game will still be allowed.
The administration hopes to reign in troublesome fans who attend tailgate parties but not the game itself.
The ban is part of an effort to reverse an increase in public-drunkenness and rowdy behavior. Campus police have seen an almost 40-percent increase in public-drunkenness cases in the past five years. As part of the plan, Penn State will increase police patrols that target underage drinking, and more state troopers will be inside the stadium during games.
