SAN DIEGO – A Kaiser Permanente pediatric nurse was charged Wednesday with sexual exploitation of a child after authorities discovered he was molesting a 2-month-old premature foster baby who was placed in his care.

Michael William Lutts, 50, was given custody of the premature infant boy on Aug. 4. He began molesting the child the same day and recorded images and video on his cell phone, the Associated Press reports.

The young child was assaulted for at least 10 days, according to a criminal complaint filed by the FBI.

The FBI became suspicious of Lutts after he was linked to an E-mail account that authorities believe was used to send child porn images to a suspected distributor.

Lutts did not enter a plea, the Associated Press reports.

Investigators are currently reviewing whether there are additional victims, as well as how Lutts was give care of the young boy. Authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward considering Lutts’ job gave him access to children.

The foster baby is now in protective custody.
