Patient Stabs Security Officer at S.C. Hospital

Few details of the incident have been released as police investigate.

Police are investigating a patient’s stabbing of a hospital security officer in Hartsville, South Carolina on Jan. 11.

The incident occurred between 6 and 7 p.m. at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, according to scnow.com.

The identities of the people involved have not been released but the officer is in stable condition.

Deputies took the suspect into custody after his brother called police to tell them the suspect was having mental issues. Police brought the suspect to the hospital for a psychological evaluation and left the patient with a hospital security officer.

At some point, the suspect pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the security officer before being subdued. The officer was initially taken to the Intensive Care Unit but is expected to make a full recovery.

The suspect was relocated to a mental health facility. No charges have been brought against the suspect at this time.
