Patient Accused of Selling Heroin Inside Excela Westmoreland Hospital

Police seized more than 300 bags of heroin, two syringes and $1,420 from the suspect’s Excela Westmoreland Hospital room.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – An Excela Westmoreland Hospital patient was arrested for allegedly selling heroin while she was in the intensive care unit, and later out of her hospital room.

A confidential informant paid the woman $90 for what is believed to be heroin, WPXI.com reports.

Authorities seized more than 300 stamp bags, two syringes and $1,420 from the suspect’s hospital room. The heroin is worth about $3,800 on the street, police said. The suspect also allegedly injected heroin into her IV system.

Hospital officials contacted police after they noticed an excessive amount of foot traffic from one room, prompting personnel to contact the security staff. After watching surveillance footage, the security staff noticed that visitors were only staying in her room for a few minutes as opposed to hour-long visits.

The woman faces charges of delivery of possession of a controlled substance.
