ST. PAUL, Minn. — One Minnesota Security Hospital patient went missing for 22 hours and another was arrested after reportedly stabbing his mother in a nearby park on Tuesday.
State human services officials launched an investigation after William Pfeffer, who was classified as “mentally ill and dangerous,” left the hospital while wearing an electronic monitor and another male patient left for a pre-arranged pass with his mother and allegedly stabbed her, Minnesota Public Radio News reports.
The investigation will look at whether employees adequately assessed the risk level of the patients and whether new security measures should be added, said Anne Barry, deputy commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
