Parents Fear More Teen Bullying at Mississippi High School

WALNUT GROVE, Miss. – Parents of students at South Leake High School appeared on campus to address the growing number of bullying incidents. They believe the Leake County School District has not been taking these occurrences seriously.

Shauwanda Buffcan told WAPT TV that her 13-year-old son suffered a contusion and mild traumatic brain injury after being assaulted on a school bus by an older student. School officials say the student was disciplined, but Buffcan believes there isn’t enough being done to address this type of violence.

Leake County School Superintendent Monte Ladner told WAPT TV that the district is taking these complaints seriously, but suggested that incidents of bullying have been relatively isolated and that students are generally safe.
