NEW YORK—The United States could face the cyber-equivalent of Pearl Harbor and is becoming more vulnerable to foreign computer hackers.
If successful, the attacks could dismantle the nation’s power grid, transportation, financial networks and government, reports the New York Times. The warning was made by U.S. Defense Secretary Leon E. Panetta on Thursday in a speech he made at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum. He says the attacks were coming from China, Russia, Iran and militant groups, and the statement was made in response to a wave of cyberattacks on large U.S. financial institutions.
