SWISSVALE, Pa. — An armed security officer at UPMC Shadyside Hospital faces heroin possession charges after authorities witnessed a drug transaction involving the man, along with three others.

Police spotted Shawn Fitzpatrick, 50, driving a gold Chevrolet with three passengers when one passenger bought drugs from a pedestrian. When police stopped the vehicle, they discovered heroin, drug paraphernalia, a bullet-resistan vest and knives inside the SUV, TribLive.com reports. Fitzpatrick was in full uniform, carrying a loaded Glock 9mm firearm, which he uses for his job, during the transaction, CBS Pittsburgh reports.

Fitzpatrick admitted to police that he drove others to return stolen property from Lowe’s and Home Depot. In exchange, they group would receive gifts cards, which they would trade for cash at a local pawn shop for $100 cash. They used the money to purchase heroin.
