JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. — The Pennsylvania Department of Education is now accepting applications for a grant to fund school resource officers (SROs) and other safety enhancements.
The competitive grant program will provide a school or municipality with a $60,000 grant for an SRO or $40,000 for a school police officer. The department has set aside $3.9 million for the grants, PennLive.com reports.
Schools that have not employed an SRO or police officer within the last three years will receive priority.
Additionally, $2.6 million in grants up to $25,000 each will be available to help schools control violence.
