PALMETTO, Fla. — OSHA filed a lawsuit against Renaissance Arts and Education, Inc., which operates Manatee School for the Arts, to reinstate a former employee. The suit claims the employee was terminated for reporting safety concerns.
The employee submitted a letter to his supervisor about improperly placed extension cords and the lack of a sprinkler system, Safety.BLR.com reports. The school did not respond to the letter, so the employee filed a complaint with OSHA. After OSHA contacted the school, the employee was told his position was being terminated.
The U.S. Department of Labor filed the lawsuit under the federal Whistleblower Protection Act. The suit seeks a permanent injunction to prevent future violations of OSHA, plus reinstatement of the employee with full benefits, back wages and damages.
