NORFOLK, Va. — An Old Dominion University campus police sergeant E-mailed the 30 students who assist campus police as patrol aides on June 15 to tell them their jobs were coming to an end due to budget cuts.
The university said that the E-mail was premature, and that Police Chief Rhonda Harris only wants to “revamp” the program, The Virginian-Pilot reports. However, students are skeptical of the changes and called the E-mail “a complete surprise.”
Students will also not be needed for the school’s Safe Ride program. The program will be transferred from the campus police to parking services division to accommodate demand and speed up efficiency.
