An Oklahoma school received a federal grant to improve its technology this summer.
Grandview Public School in eastern Oklahoma will spend $90,000 to replace wireless access ports, switches and servers to connect the school’s six buildings, according to tahlequahdailypress.com.
With the goal of further connecting the buildings, contractors are digging holes to install fiber optic cables underground. School officials also say updates to the Student Information System are underway to transfer the system from server-based to web-based.
The upgrades are part of a larger goal to bring more technology to each classroom. Currently each student between fifth and eighth grade receives a Chromebook and projectors and smart boards are being installed in some classrooms.
The grant’s amount was based on the number of students on the free and reduced-price lunch programs.
The school is also upgrading its fire and security systems using money outside of the federal grant after the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal found two violations in April.
