Ohio University has reached a $1 million settlement in a lawsuit filed by the father of a freshman girl who died in 2010 from bacterial meningitis.
Joseph Robinson’s lawsuit claimed that the death of his daughter, Andrea, could have been prevented. Andrea was one of six students who was diagnosed with Strain B meningitis – which cannot be prevented by a vaccine – between Feb. 16, 2009 and Feb. 7, 2010, Cleveland.com reports.
Andrea called the university’s health center and described her symptoms but was told by a medical assistant to take Tylenol, drink water and rest. By that evening, the student’s symptoms had worsened, and she called an ambulance. She died two days later.
