STEUBENVILLE, Ohio — A Steubenville High School employee faces up to four years in prison for allegedly covering up for two football players accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.
Police arrested 53-year-old William Rhinaman, the school’s director of technology, on Monday. He faces four counts, including tampering with evidence, obstructing justice, obstructing official business and perjury in connection with the case involving football players Ma’lik Richmond, 16, and Trenton Mays, 17.
In March, the two teens were convicted of raping the girl during a series of parties in August 2012, CNN reports. Richmond was sentenced to a minimum of one year in a juvenile correctional facility. Mays, who was also found guilty of disseminating a nude photo of a minor, got two years. If Rhinaman is convicted, he could serve four years behind bars, more than the two convicted teens will serve.
Following Richmond and Mays’ convictions, state officials revealed that 16 people refused to speak to investigators during the case. A grand jury will determine whether other crimes were committed.
