Ohio Bill Makes Assault on Hospital Workers a Felony

OHIO — A bill that would increase the punishment for assaulting a hospital worker to a fourth-degree felony passed the Ohio House of Representatives by a vote of 85 to 12. The bill now moves to the Senate.

House Bill 62 would make an assault on anyone who works in a hospital punishable by six to 18 months in prison and a fine up to $5,000, MedCity News reports. The legislation is supported by the Ohio Hospital Association and Ohio State Medical Association.

The bill has made it further than a nearly identical bill that was proposed in the state’s previously legislative session.
