COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services said it would withhold Medicare payments from Adena Regional Medical Center beginning this month if the hospital did not improve its staffing and procedures.
A March 23 investigation found that a lack of security at the hospital allowed an emergency-room patient to steal a nurse’s ID card and use it to steal a laptop computer and drugs, The Columbus Dispatch reports. The investigation also found that some drugs and medical supplies were left unsecured.
The hospital has since hired a security consultant. Hospital visitors are required to wear badges, more security employees are being hired and security cameras will be more carefully monitored.
