Officers Deter Inmate’s Attempted Hospital Escape

An inmate was restrained to a Sioux Falls hospital bed after he brandished a metal object at corrections officers.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Corrections officers prevented an inmate from escaping from a local hospital here on July 7.

Alonzo Young was taken to the hospital in an ambulance from the Jameson Annex of State Penitentiary after claiming to have taken a substantial amount of medication. He was admitted to the hospital for evaluation.

While using the restroom in the hospital room, Young began waving a metal object approximately 8.5 inches long at corrections officers, Keloland.com reports.

The two officers were able to confiscate the object, and with the help of hospital security staff, they were able to restrain Young to a hospital bed.
