PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A Clairton police officer who was shot while responding to a home invasion on April 4 received threats last Wednesday at the hospital where he is recovering. The threats prompted Clairton police to increase security for Officer James Kuzak at UPMC Mercy Hospital.
The hospital received two calls on April 30 from a caller who is believed to be a woman, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. The calls were forwarded to the coordinator overseeing the unit where Kuzak is receiving treatment.
In the first call, the caller mispronounced Kuzak’s name but said she was a relative who was coming to visit him the following week. In the second call, which was received more than an hour later, the caller told the coordinator that people were coming to shoot Kuzak. The calls are believed to have come from the same person.
Kuzak was moved to another floor of the hospital, and police are now working to trace the calls. Kuzak’s shooter, Marcus Andrejco, is awaiting trial. Another suspect remains at large.
