HOUSTON — A police officer patrolling Texas Children’s Hospital arrested a man suspected of a string of thefts in the area in the facility’s parking lot Tuesday.
Officer Robert Tagle became suspicious when a car with no front license plate and the lights turned off dropped a man off at the hospital. The action was consistent with how car burglars operate in parking lots, ABC13 reports.
Tagle then questioned the car’s driver, who said his friend was receiving treatment at the facility. The officer, who smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle, searched the car and discovered six watches, 16 necklaces, 41 bracelets and a debit card traced to a woman whose home had been burglarized on Oct. 1. The driver said the items belonged to his friend.
Tagle arrested the hospital patient, identified as Anthony Coleman, who faces charges of felony theft. It is unclear if the vehicle’s driver will be charged.
