Off-Duty Patrol Officers to Provide Security for Hospital ER

NORTH WILKESBORO N.C.
Published: November 26, 2008

The town of North Wilkesboro, N.C., will consider providing volunteer security for the Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Off-duty patrol officers will be able to work part-time as security officers for the hospital’s emergency room.

The positions would be voluntary and the officers would provide basic security during the hospital’s peak hours.

A similar proposal was rejected by Wilkesboro town councilmen on Nov. 3; however, interested North Wilkesboro officers are still able to volunteer. Town Manager Hank Perkins says they are also willing to swear in officers from other agencies until they have enough manpower to secure the hospital.
