LAFAYETTE, La. — The owners of the Campus Edge apartment complex, which caters to students from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette, plan to install video surveillance equipment on the property. The increase in security is in response to growing safety concerns.
According to statistics provided by the Lafayette Police Department, there have been nine requests for service at the complex in the past 90 days, The Advertiser reports. There were two drug-related complaints, six incidents of property damage and one theft.
The department has increased both uniformed and undercover patrols in the complex since an April 3 incident in which two female victims were robbed by two male suspects shortly after entering the building. No one was injured.
Residents at University House Acadiana, Campus Crossing and The Quarters have also experienced many crimes in the past 90 days. At The Quarters, there were 17 requests for assistance, including two drug complaints, 10 burglaries, four incidents of property damage and one theft.
