STORRS, Conn. — The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR) is investigating the University of Connecticut (UConn) for violating Title IX requirements after students filed complaints against the university.
Current and former students filed a federal complaint in October, stating that UConn failed to follow through on reports of sexual assault committed against them. It is unclear whether OCR will include a Clery Act complaint in its investigation, The University Herald reports.
Additionally, four students, who were involved in filing the OCR complaint, have filed a Title IX lawsuit against the university. The lawsuit alleges that UConn police closed sexual misconduct cases without reviewing evidence or interviewing all witnesses. Civil rights attorney Gloria Allred is representing the complainants.
