NY School Safety Agents Received 2,670 Complaints Since 2002

NEW YORK – Over the past five years, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has received nearly 2,700 complaints against it school safety agents.

According to WNYC, a letter sent by Commissioner Raymond Kelly to City Council Education Committee Chairman Robert Jackson revealed that the NYPD had received 2,670 complaints since 2002.

Additionally, a greater percentage of complaints had been substantiated – 27 percent – than grievances involving other NYPD police officers. Still, Kelly stated that the overall number of complaints filed was small for such a large school system.
