PORT BYRON, N.Y. – Port Byron School District voters have approved a $4.97 million school renovation project.

The referendum, which passed 153-74, authorizes district officials to allocate funds towards upgrading the high school’s infrastructure, as well as installing energy efficient light fixtures. The project will also improve the security/life safety systems of the school by installing a security camera system and exit signs, and replacing the fire alarm and communications system.

The middle school and elementary school will receive similar treatment, with a new communication system, fire alarm system, plumbing fixtures, interior electric distribution system and exit signs to be installed in each building. The middle school will also replace its skylights and install energy efficient light fixtures. The elementary school will remove a boiler.

Both the high school and middle school will have their exterior caulking and sealants replaced or repaired, and all three schools will upgrade their climate control systems, including heating, air conditioning and ventilation.
